The pathway to success

Ako Aotearoa
Branding + Website

Created at Foundry Creative

This project was designed under the creative direction of Stephen Legg, in collaboration with Mariam Abubaker.

Ako Aotearoa assists tertiary educators and organisations to enable the best possible educational outcomes for all learners. They support tertiary teachers and researchers by providing vital resources, funding opportunities and professional development events throughout New Zealand.

We were tasked with refreshing their brand and website in tandem. The process involved in depth market research and analysis, brand workshops, external interviews with key members of their target audience, as well as internal interviews with staff and board members.

The logo is constructed from unique letterforms where the double pathways symbolise the reciprocal relationship between learning and teaching, as in the meaning of the Maori word ‘ako’. The pathway concept is extended through all communications – signifying collaboration, support and the sharing of knowledge.

We re-designed the Ako website from the ground up, ensuring that content is accessible to the right people at the right time. We introduced a much more robust search tool for the knowledge centre and the ability to filter content on the home page to suit the needs of educators and researchers. The website is a vibrant, engaging platform that will take Ako well into the future.
